The owner was very nice very informative. I got this book because it called my name and I actually thought about the movie before I even ran into the book and I did not know Toni Morrison wrote this book. She is an incredible author. I’m so looking forward to diving into this book.

The store is a pleasurable and relaxing vibe. I went there to visit during a special storytelling event unexpectedly. Thus I was there browsing during an atypical time. I saw a wonderful selection of children's books but I plan to return to look at adult material.

Love this Bookstore! What a Local Gem. Fabulous selection of books on many very relevant subjects. Books seem more reasonably priced than other places, and the Staff were welcoming and helpful in pointing out where to find things and making good suggestions. Plus, there was an event going on in which happy children and their parents were enjoying "Book & Brunch", a regular event hosted at the shop - where children enjoy stories, good food and even take home a book. Such a creative idea! So many genuine smiles were in the shop this morning. What a wonderful vibe has been created here. Will be back!

10/10 experience. I absolutely loved this space. I’m from Indianapolis and I had to come see and experience this bookstore for myself and I’m so inspired. You can feel the purpose in the room the moment you walk in. To the mother and daughter behind this place, please keep going. What y’all are doing is powerful. You’re not just running a bookstore, you’re inspiring people and giving people a reason to keep going. God has so much more in store for both of you. When I spoke to the daughter Courtney (sorry if I’m spelling it wrong), her story alone was amazing. I really hope she knows how powerful she is and how much her story can impact people. Thank you both for creating something so special.

This place is so warm and inviting with an artistic vibe. We went on a Sunday afternoon and were instantly greeted with amazing service from one of the owners as soon as we walked in. They have an array of books (all the genres) with gifts sprinkled in between. There’s lots of space to grab a book and chill and the playlist was perfect as well. I honestly did not want to leave. It’s really the perfect spot to get some work done or just simply catch up on a few chapters. Stop in and support this beautiful woman owned space!

Beautiful bookstore and gift shop boutique. It's truly a warm and inviting space. I'd say it's almost begging for a cafe, but I hate coffee, and you're perfect as you are now. Came with my local sister to peruse their small but well curated selection of African American centric books. Similar to Third Eye in Portland, this place is dangerous for me. It's all new books which is her preference, but my addiction requires me buying mainly used so that I can keep paying my bills every month. I managed to keep myself to only two books(and that was a struggle), but I added several more titles to my extensive list for next time. They also sell several items from local artists, designers and crafts persons. It was a pleasure conversing with the owners about books and the state of our country. I'll definitely make a stop on my next extended trip to Chicago with a bigger spending budget. Support black owned businesses!

This is a great black owned bookstore or book boutique. They hold events and have a great selection of books written by black authors. It is very clean and the owners are mother and daughter. They sell tshirts, candles, tote bags in addition to books.

Visiting The Book Joint was truly a special experience. As someone coming from Italy and the UK, it’s incredibly difficult to find books that explore African American history, especially topics like the Great Migration, systemic racism, and the broader experiences of Afro-descendant communities. These are not always mainstream reads, and often they’re hard to access—even online. This bookstore feels like a hidden gem—a place where all these voices, stories, and perspectives are brought together in one space. The atmosphere is bright, welcoming, and full of warmth, and the people there are genuinely kind. The owner was even surprised and honored that we had come such a long way just to visit the shop, which made the experience feel even more meaningful. She took the time to recommend books, and I ended up buying everything she suggested—and more. If I ever come back to Chicago, I would absolutely return here without hesitation. A truly rare and valuable place.
